Over the last couple weeks, a few friends have suffered various computer crashes and data losses. The following tip originated with a comment by Brad Coy on a Bloodhound Blog post: Use Google Reader as part of a back up...
KLUDGE: In modern computing terminology, a 'kludge' is a 'solution' to a problem, doing a task, or fixing a system (whether hardware or software) that is inefficient, inelegant, or even unfathomable, but which nevertheless (more or less) works.
It has been suggested, as a folk etymology, or backronym, that KLUDGE stands for Klumsy, Lame, Ugly, Dumb, but Good Enough; which rather captures the point.
The Queen of Kludge is a collection of my personal hacks, fixes, and kludges whether for computing, or for life, that while, often inelegant, mostly have worked.
