Word Press One-Click Install

Disclaimer: This is another post from back in January, 2008, first published on Active Rain.

As things would have it, I ended with some unused web space on MidPhase, a web hosting company. I thought, cool, maybe I’ll try to install a WordPress.org blog there.

Googling around, I learned that MidPhase offers One-Click WordPress installation with Fantastico. OK, I didn’t know what that was, but I figured there’s nothing to lose, I’ll try it.

It was quick and painless. Here’s what it looks like. Remember One Click installation will pretty much look the same on any web host that offers Fantastico.

First, log in to your host’s control panel, and find the Fantastico icon.

Click on WordPress in the Fantastico left navigation menu.

Click on New Installation. (It’s referring to installing WordPress on your web host account, now on your personal computer.)

Fantastico will populate some of the fields in the installation form, go ahead and complete the rest. Note that the admin info must be the same login and password that you use to sign in to your host. Also note that you may want to install to the root directory, to maintain a simple URL such as http://www.example.com When finished, click Install WordPress.

Done and confirmed. It’s a really good idea to have Fantastico email you your new log-in information for safe keeping.

Now you can log in to your new WordPress.org blog, customize it, and start blogging.

Welcome to WordPress! I have now updated the installation, customized a theme, and customized a plug-in. Whew! Like I said, a lot for an old brain to process in a 48 hour period. I’ll post some screen shots of these other actions over the next several days.
